Adding a Great Pyrenees Puppy to your Farm

At The Crooks Family Farm we are very passionate about raising well started Livestock Guardian Puppies. We began breeding after seeing such a need for actual working lines. Too many LGDs are being poorly bred and raised causing issues when it comes to relying on dogs to protect livestock. There is a lot more to breeding than just having a male and female dog.

Our dogs are a perfect representation of Livestock Guardians and after years of breeding with raving reviews we are very excited to be offering puppies from our lines. We believe in raising puppies with the stock from day 1 and our puppies only come inside if there is inclement weather and to get a bath before heading to their new homes. We raise our puppies with the upmost care and truly want to set them up for success. They are exposed to a variety of livestock at a young age and are handled by humans daily. We breed for temperament (gentle disposition, strong bonds to their charges, even level of physical activity), intelligence, moderate size, healthy sound conformation, and longevity.

Raising Puppies

While Puppies are with us we take TONS of photos and videos that we share on social media and/or directly with you if you have placed a deposit. Heres whats going on while we raise our puppies.

Weeks 1-2

Puppies are whelped in a clean stall that only mama has access too. Mama can come and go so she can continue helping guard the stock.

Weeks 3-4

Eyes and Ears are now open. Puppies are eliminating on their own and moving to a designated area. We start a solid “mash” food.

Weeks 5-6

Personalities are beginning to show. Puppies are becoming very playful and have found their little barks. They are wondering out of the stall.

Weeks 7-8

Puppies follow mama absolutely everywhere and are so very playful with each other! We can tell them apart simply by watching them at this point.

Weeks 9-12

Food is now fully solid. Between 9-12 weeks puppies are really taking it all in and learning from the adult dogs. They are ready for their new farms anytime during this time.
